Description

Minh Mang Tomb, also known as Hieu Lang, is located on a Cam Ke mountain in Huong Tho commune, Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province. This place is located right near Bang Lang junction, about 12km from the city center, with a total area of 40 large and small projects.

Minh Mang succeeded King Gia Long in 1820 and he made many contributions to the country's reform. At that time, he built a Son mausoleum used to rest and relax after being tired and also a place to burn incense after his death.

To be able to build, he spent 14 years looking for a suitable location and finally he chose Cam Khe mountain. This place has all the elements of water, mountains and forests and many green trees, later he changed it to Hieu Son and named Hieu Lang for his mausoleum.

After many approvals of the designs and reports on the architecture, construction did not begin until April 1840. During construction, he fell ill and died. After 1 month, King Thieu Tri ascended the throne and continued to complete the construction of Minh Mang Tomb in 1843.

The area of King Minh Mang's mausoleum is about 18 hectares, including more than 40 large and small works, all of which are arranged symmetrically. The works are distributed on 3 major axes and all are parallel to each other, choosing Shinto street as the center. The shape of Minh Mang's mausoleum is shaped like a person lying down and resting his head on Kim Phung mountain.

Minh Mang's mausoleum is covered with a green color of trees with an extremely peaceful and quiet space of the river and the solidity of the mountains. All of them bring a charming beauty that is also adorned with a fragrant lotus pond in the middle of the mausoleum campus.

The attractions inside Minh Mang Tomb:

Dai Hong Mon is the main gate to enter Minh Mang Tomb, the building material at that time was lime brick. Similar to the main doors of most Nguyen tombs, the gate will include 3 main doors, also known as Tam Quan Gate, located under the leaf roof including 24 tiles.

According to historical records, Dai Hong Mon once opened the door to bring King Minh Mang's coffin into the mausoleum, then it has been closed until now. The principle of Tam Quan gate is that you should not enter the main door, so tourists coming here will have to go through one of the two side gates that are Ta Hong Mon and Huu Hong Mon.

Continuing through Dai Hong Mon is a large courtyard called Bai Dinh. This is a very large yard with both sides being the stone stele of Thanh Duc Than Cong written by King Thieu Tri, in order to let future generations know the biography and great merits of King Father in the past.
